People with personality traits of high neuroticism and low conscientiousness are likely to go through cycles of gaining and losing weight throughout their lives, according to an examination of 50 years of data in a study published by the American Psychological Association. Impulsivity was the strongest predictor of who would be overweight, the researchers found. Study participants who scored in the top 10 percent on impulsivity weighed an average of 22 lbs. more than those in the bottom 10 percent, according to the study.

“Individuals with this constellation of traits tend to give in to temptation and lack the discipline to stay on track amid difficulties or frustration,” the researchers wrote.

Husbands beware: A new study offers more evidence to your wife that you are much better off because of her.

The study deals with how quickly people get to hospital after suffering a heart attack. And it seems that wives aren’t getting the same benefits that husbands are.

Published Monday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, the study shows married men, or those in common-law relationships, are more likely than unattached men to seek timely medical assistance after experiencing symptoms of a heart attack.

A similar effect was not seen among women who were married or in common-law relationships.

The study was led by Clare Atzema, a scientist with the Toronto-based Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences.

The Hypoallergenic infant formula is no more effective than regular cow’s milk at reducing the chances of contraction of allergies among high-risk infants up to seven years of age, a new study has revealed.

The trial, which is one the largest to test the effect of hypoallergenic baby formula, involved 620 infants and assessed whether using the formula decreased the risk of allergy in later life.

A mother from Maple Plain living with incurable cancer says she wants her story to help other people.

At 58, Joan Serena, a mother of two, is battling melanoma for the second time in her life.

If I had been more careful, and gotten this mole checked earlier, I might not be where I am today.

Serena says the mole she had removed on her shoulder had been bugging her for more than a year. Its not only the time she waited to go to the doctor, but all of the time she spent baking her skin in the sun.

I used baby oil, tin foil, I got burned, she said.

According to the American Cancer Society, more people are being diagnosed with the disease.
