An experimental tuberculosis shot for children works best when it is not given with other vaccines, a new study has found. The finding raises concerns because doctors working in Africa prefer to give babies as many vaccines as possible at once. Every additional visit is an extra cost to the mother, making it more likely that her children wont get all their shots, explained the studys chief author, Dr. Martin O. C. Ota of the Gambian Medical Research Council Laboratories. The study, of 214 babies in West Africa, was reported last week in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
